Ever since Nepal’s borders were opened to the outside world in 1951, travellers from all over the world got enthusiastic about visiting Nepal, in order to discover the secrets of the country. Then, the diplomatic relations, established in 1958 between Nepal and the FederalRepublic of Germany, opened up ways also for German tourists to visit Nepal in gradual numbers until German Tourist consisted one of the main countries having guests coming to see the culture and beauty of Nepal. Due to tourism more and more Nepali where learning another foreign language to work in tourism services. So the German language became a magnet to many Nepali, who find agood source of income. Keeping in mind the exodus of German tourists to Nepal and the prospects of German language in the country, the then director of Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi, Prof. Dr. Heimo Rau decided to establish a Goethe Institut in Kathmandu 1978 in order to help young Nepalese learn German. The very first German language courses were held at the Goethe Institut Kathmandu from 2nd of August 1982, much to the applause of those involved in German language teaching in Nepal. Mr Michael Chand was the leading Teacher and Director forming the Goethe Center and GZK until 2015.Since 2010, and the Establishment of PASCH, German language teaching in Nepal gained momentum. The motivation and enthusiasm of teaching and learning German language in Nepal is still the trade mark of the GZK today. The new institute with the name Goethe Zentrum (GZK) was established by the staff of the then Goethe Institut with the backing and support of the Goethe Institut Munich. The Goethe Zentrum Kathmandu has been successful in imparting German language to hundreds of students each semester so far.

job description
  • Management of GZK
  • Acquisition of teachers
  • Supervision of the teachers as well as quality control of tuition
  • Organizing and taking part in regular meetings with the board members and the teachers 
  • Organizing and updating the website
  • Organizing the different language courses 
  • Supervision of the exam department also outside normal working hours
  • Documentation of the relevant activities and of the Management
  • Organizing events and prepare the annual general meetings
Job Specification
  • Good command in German and English (writing and speaking) 
  • Good command in Nepali (speaking)
  • Minimum of three years' experience in managing an institution
  • Resident in Germany and Nepal for minimum of two years
  • Flexibility and willingness to work
  • If necessary, on weekends/holidays
Education description
  • Bachelor's Degree.
